The last week has been a whirlwind. Running between family dinners and between Bucharest and Cluj, killing time with wine bottles all by myself or glasses filled with beer around tables with friends. I think I'm getting old because all I really want to do for New Year's Eve is sleep until the cows come home. Will probably end up next to a glass of vodka and a plate of cookies.

And because this whole "What I've learned in 2010" meme has been going around the interwebz, here are the two things I've aquired these 365 days: Don't mix drinks and a truckload of medical stuff I will forget come January 1st.

Cluj, darling city, thank you for a couple of really great days. I'll always have those few extra pounds to remind me of you.

9 hours train ride. Once the book got too long and the iPhone games got too boring, we resorted to acting like 5-year-olds.

It was nice and snowy over there. It was also so freezing that even Mr Freeze would buy an electric blanket. But pretty, nontheless.

Thank god for kiddy mittens and grandma style socks.

This is what happens when the boy sends me to buy snacks for the train ride home. I go buy giant marshmallow eyes and then run around the train whispering "The Eye of Sauron is going to get youuuuuu". Hey, I didn't watch all the Lord of the Rings extended editions for nothing :)

Florina's birthday party rounded up the holiday party count. Yet hers was the best bash we've had in this house all year. There was drinking, there were muffins, there was dancing to Ke$ha (who we hate to love) and then there was chilling to Red Hot Chili Peppers (who we just love).

All in all, one great party. Love you babe :)

Tried to make a snowman.

Failed to make a snowman. Made a snowboob (The Boy's take on our sculpture) or a snow flowerpot (my take on the sculpture).

Decided to give up freezing and watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special which had Dumbledore as a narrator so WIN!!

Always keep in mind: Bowties are cool.

Nothing says Christmas like a sugar overload. Complete with artificially colored sprinkles to keep the heart pumping.

Funny thing, this year it feels like almost everybody is a Grinch in disguise. Maybe it's the school stress or the lack of Christmas snow or maybe everyone's hearts shrank two sizes too small. Even my poor tree looks particularly glum this year.

Not even Tron could lighten the mood and that's saying something. When not even a David Bowie-esque Michael Sheen and a wrapped in shiny leather Olivia Wilde can't crack a smile, you know things are blue in Whoville. I blame too freaky to be cool CGI Jeff Bridges for that.


But! But at least friends are close and gifts are tightly wrapped and cookies are freshly baked so for a night I actually put on my reindeer horns and felt the need to sing Christmas carols at the top of my lungs. Those are the days when even a Grinch feels annoyingly cheerful :-)
